Manage Plan Without Canceling: Self-Serve Changes Before Exit
“Too expensive” often means “wrong tier.” If plan changes live only inside the cancel flow, you force a save conversation for a problem billing UI should solve. Self-serve upgrades, downgrades, and seat changes belong on subscription management — with cancel as a separate, honest path.
Downgrade in the cancel flow: downgrade instead of cancel. Plan vs discount saves: plan switch vs discount cancel flow.

What to offer outside cancel
| Change | Typical save story |
|---|---|
| Downgrade to lower tier | Price sensitivity without full exit |
| Reduce seats | Team shrink, not product rejection |
| Switch monthly ↔ annual | Cash flow vs commitment |
| Add pause (if product supports) | Temporary break — see pause vs cancel |
When to keep changes human-led
Enterprise annual contracts may need sales or success — route by MRR: high-value customer cancellation flow and cancellation flow by plan and billing.
Stripe implementation note
Plan switches use subscription item updates and proration rules. Cancel timing is separate — scheduled cancellation timing.
Plan switch as a cancel-flow offer
Configure downgrade and price switches inside ChurnIntel retention steps.
